Dr. Margherita Cameranesi completed international interdisciplinary training in clinical psychology and applied health sciences in Italy and Canada, respectively. She has 10+ years of experience teaching at the university level and three years of postdoctoral training at Dalhousie University and the University of Manitoba. In 2024, Margherita joined the Department of Psychology at SMU as an Assistant Professor of Psychology, where she teaches courses in developmental, health, and positive psychology. Margherita's research aims to identify the factors and processes that promote the mental health and well-being of marginalized, equity-seeking populations by promoting their resilience to adversity. Currently, Margherita is leading two participatory, community-directed research projects with a focus on mental health and resilience in racialized refugee youth and youth with type 1 diabetes. Margherita has also led research projects involving families impacted by intimate partner violence and persons with neurodevelopmental disabilities.
