Quentrel Provo is a nationally recognized community leader, award-winning advocate, and founder of the Stop the Violence movement—an initiative born out of personal tragedy and driven by a powerful commitment to change. Following the tragic killing of his cousin in 2012, Quentrel transformed his grief into purpose, launching a grassroots movement to raise awareness about violence and advocate for peace, love, and community safety across Nova Scotia and beyond.
In this impactful session, Quentrel will explore the root causes and lasting consequences of gun violence, offering a lens into the personal, communal, and systemic impact of violence. He will share pathways to peace and prevention, grounded in lived experience, public engagement, and policy insight. His session invites both reflection and action—challenging participants to examine how we can collectively disrupt cycles of violence and promote safer communities.
A respected figure in Nova Scotia, Quentrel’s advocacy led to the official designation of June 10th as “Stop the Violence Day” across the province. He has received numerous accolades for his work, including the Senate of Canada 150 Medal, the Indomitable Spirit Award, and recognition as one of the Top 100 Most Influential People of African Descent (MIPAD) under 40, joining a list that includes international figures such as Beyoncé, Drake, and The Weeknd.
Beyond his public speaking and outreach work, Quentrel currently serves on the Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC) Board of Governors, the United Way Board of Directors, and was recently appointed to the Government of Canada’s Cross-Cultural Roundtable on Security. His leadership has had wide-ranging impact—from speaking at schools and national conferences, to launching initiatives like the Stop the Violence Toy Drive, School Tour, and Community Events aimed at empowering youth and reducing violence through positive community engagement.
Through his voice, his music, and his tireless organizing, Quentrel continues to be a powerful force for peace, working to ensure that every community feels safe, supported, and heard.
